The African Rock Python (Python sebae) occurs in the tropical Africa savanna of southern Africa. Large adults can reach more than 20 feet in length and weigh hundreds of pounds. The animal shown here was quite small, perhaps 18 inches in length. We found this snake in a tree along the Olifantspruit River, near Nylstroom, Limpopo Province, South Africa in January, 2006. It was photographed with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
