The Amethyst Dancer (Argia pallens) is a southwestern damselfly occurrying south to Guatemala. It is very rare in west Texas but more expected in parts of New Mexico and Arizona. The shot shown here was taken in April, 2005, along the San Carlos River in Graham Co., Arizona with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 580EX flash.

The next two shots show female Amethyst Dancers at Sabino Canyon, Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in May, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.

The male on the left was in Sycamore Canyon, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, in May, 2008. This image was taken with the same gear as above. The next tywo shots down showing a pair in tandem and a single male were also taken at this same time and location.
