The Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) is fairly common and widespread along the west coast of the United States. The species wanders widely in the late summer, fall and winter and occurrences as far east as the Atlantic seaboard have occurred. There are two shots of a male shown here to illustrate how angle can light up the gorget. This bird was photographed in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in April, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender and 580 flash.
