The Badger (Taxidea taxus) also called American Badger, is a member of the weasel family. It is a powerful digger and is fairly uncommon. It is a resident over the western two thirds of the U.S. as well as large parts of Canada and Mexico, but in recent times is seldom seen. The animal digs up gophers and ground squirrels as well as snakes, insects and may eat almost anything it can subdue. The Badger shown in the three shots at left was peering at me from its burrow on the Pawnee National Grasslands, Weld Co., Colorado, in June, 2007. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 lens.
