The Black-collared Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis) ranges from southern Mexico into Brazil. It prefers wet lowlands and often perches along swamps, rivers or lakes. The adult in the two shots at left is keeping an eye on the photographer as we drifted by in a small boat. The immature bird below was photographed nearby. The photos were taken in April, 1992, at Hato El Cedral, Apure, Venezuela. The camera gear was a Canon T-90 & FD 400mm F4.5 lens and Fresnel flash on a BushHawk shoulder mount with Kodachrome 64.
