In the U.S., the Black-fronted Forktail (Ischnura denticollis) is a damselfly of the southwest. It has occurred as far north as parts of Oregon and Idaho but the majority of records are further south. In Texas this species occurs in the Trans-Pecos area and in parts of the Panhandle. The digital shots shown on this page were taken at Lake Rita Blanca in Hartley Co. in the northwest part of the Panhandle in August 2004 with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and an EF 180 Macro F/3.5 lens and 1.4X extender. The lavender-colored individual is apparently a young female.
