The Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) is a very common butterfly over the entire eastern two-thirds of the United States and much of Mexico. The individual in the top shot on the left was at Lake Marvin, Hemphill Co., Texas, in March, 2008. The shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
