The Black-throated Sparrow (Amphispiza bilineata) is an attractive little desert sparrow which is quite common across much of the western United States and Mexico. Its song is one of the common sounds that is heard in the Chihuahuan Desert of west Texas. The bird immediately below was photographed in May, 1989 at Rio Grande Village, Big Bend National Park, Brewster Co., Texas with a hand-held Minolta X-570 camera and Vivitar 120-500mm F5.6 lens on Kodachrome 200 with available light. The shots below were all digital captures in the spring and early summer 2006 in western Hidalgo Co., Texas. These shots were al taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. The below was a territorial male. The 2nd shot shows the bird singing.

	The Black-throated Sparrow on the left was coming to the edge of a water hole to drink near Rio Grande City, Starr Co., Texas, in December, 2007. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
