The Blue-throated Motmot (Aspatha gularis) is a resident of montane evergreen and pine-oak forests from southern Mexico and into Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. It is easy to hear this species, but it is often very difficult to see. On many trips within its range I've only been able to get a very few marginal photos of this bird, one of which is presented here. This image was taken on the edge of cloud forest at El Triunfo, Chiapas, Mexico, in March, 1999, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Sensia film.
