The Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) is one of the characteristic large mammals that one may see when visiting game parks in much of southern Africa. The animal is sometimes called a Gnu. The images shown here were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500 mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X in January, 2006. The top two shots were taken in the Nylsvley Nature Reserve in Limpopo Province, South Africa while the next two shots were taken in Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. The bottom shot, of a mother and calf, was taken in the harsh light of mid day, but is the best I could do under the circumstances.
