The Broad Scarlet (Crocothemis erythraea) is a widespread dragonfly of the Old World occurring from southern Africa into Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. The four shots of males shown here were taken in January, 2006, in South Africa, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. The top shot was near Vaalwater, Limpopo Province. The next three shots were taken at the Potholes Reserve, Blyde River Canyon, Mpumalanga Province.
