The Cassin's Sparrow (Aimophila cassinii) is a widespread sparrow of scrub lands and desert grasslands of the western half of Texas, and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas. Its song can be commonly heard during the spring and summer in much of south and west Texas. The Cassin's Sparrow shown here was a singing male photographed in April, 2002, on a private ranch in Kenedy Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 1V and Canon EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender from a Gitzo tripod on Fuji Velvia pushed one stop.
