The Columbian Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus columbianus) ranges across part of the Rocky Mountains from parts of western Canada into higher elevations of Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon. The animal lives in loose colonies in alpine meadows and other grasslands. The individuals shown here were photographed in June, 2001, at Logan Pass, Glacier National Park, Glacier Co., Montana. All images were taken with a Canon EOS 3 and an EF 500 mm F4L IS lens on Fuji Provia 100.
