The Common Spreadwing (Lestes plagiatus) is a widespread damselfly of central and southern Africa. It is very common in the northern portions of South Africa and we encountered this species almost everywhere. All the shots shown here were taken in January, 2006, in various locations in Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces, South Africa, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. The shots here show both males and females of various ages. I can provide exact location information if someone is interested enough to contact me.
