The Common Thorntail (Ceratogomphus pictus) is a widespread dragonfly found throughout South Africa. Its range extends northward to the Congo and Zambia. All the shots shown here were taken in South Africa during January, 2006. The top four shots were at Blyde River Canyon, Mpumalanga Province and the fifth shot was taken along Whisky Creek near Pilgrim's Rest, also in Mpumalanga Province. All shots were with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
