The Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) is a widespread hawk in North America and Mexico. It is in the group of hawks known as Accipiters which have relatively short, rounded wings and long tails. These birds are known for their ability to catch other birds and for their excellent agility in dense brush. The immature bird shown at left was photographed at Bosque del Apache N.W.R., Socorro Co., New Mexico in November 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
