The Coyote (Canis latrans) is a very widespread animal which occurs across all of the U.S. as well as much of Canada and Mexico. It is very common in some areas but it is a shy and wary creature most of the time. The photos on this page were taken in April, 2002, in Kenedy Co., Texas. I was in a photo blind near the carcass of a feral hog at which several coyotes had been feeding. One animal in particular seemed a little more bold than the rest and gave some nice poses as I shot photos with a Canon EOS 1V and EF 500 F4.5 L IS lens and Fuji Velvia. Note the small cactus spine in the right ear of one of these animals.
