The Crested Francolin (Peliperdix sephaena) is a common and widespread species over much of southern Africa. They are often seen crossing the road or wandering through grassland and brush in small groups. The shots here were taken near Nylsvley, Limpopo Province, South Africa in January, 2006 with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens. There was a raptor soaring overhead at the time and this bird was keeping a cautious eye skyward.
