The Crested Guan (Penelope purpurascens) occurs on both slopes of Mexico from southern Tamaulipas and Sinaloa south through Central America to northern South America. The species is hard to find in areas where it is hunted, but can be commonly seen in areas where protected. The bird shown here was photographed in December, 1999, at Chan Chich Lodge near Gallon Jug, Belize. The shots were taken with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 300mm F2.8 L lens and 2X extender and flash on Fuji Velvia film.
