The Crimson Patch (Chlosyne janais) is tropical species which can sometimes be found in south Texas. The shot of the adult on the left was taken near Rio Grande City, Starr Co., Texas, in November, 2003. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender. The next two shots of the caterpillar of this species were taken in Weslaco, Hidalgo Co., Texas, in May, 2004, with the same equipment.

 

 

 


The next 4 shots were taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in November, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
