This is a Fishing Spider (Dolomedes sp.). This is probably Dolomedes triton but this cannot be determined with certanity without examination of the specimen. This spider was foraging along the edge of a small stream in Travis Co., Texas, in June, 2005. Fishing Spiders can float on the water and will catch tadpoles, small fish and virtually anything else of proper size. It was photographed with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 580 flash. |
