The Fork-tailed Woodnymph (Thalurania furcata) occurs in the lowland forests of South America, east of the Andes, from Venezuela to Argentina. The individual here was investigating some flower blooms at the Amazon Conservatory for Tropical Studies (ACTS), near the Rio Napo, Departmento de Loreto, Peru, in July, 2006. The image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300 mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. Unfortunately, I was only able to get this single shot of this species on this trip.
