The Four-spotted Skimmer (Libellula quadrimaculata) is a widespread dragonfly over most of the U.S. and Canada, but it is absent from the southcentral and southeast United States. The top 2 shots here, of a female, were taken near Arnprior, Renfrew Co., Ontario, Canada, in July, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash.

The Four-spotted Skimmer on the left was near Crouse Reservoir, Uintah Co., Utah, in July, 2007. This image was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.

The female Four-spotted Skimmer in the next 2 shots was near Unity, Baker Co., Oregon, in July, 2008. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.
