The Fox Sparrow (Passerella iliaca) has several distinct subspecies ranging from the dark, sooty colored birds of the Pacific northwest to the reddish colored "Taiga" race in the northeast. The populations have intermediate plumage in many areas. The singing bird shown here was in Glacier National Park, Glacier Co., Montana, in June, 2001. It was photographed with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender on Fuji Velvia.
