Although considered a subspecies of the California Sea Lion (Zalophus californianus), the Galapagos Sea Lion (Zalophus californianus wollebacki) gets its own page on my site, a break from my normal "species specific" treatment. This subspecies is restricted to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. The top 4 shots were digital images on James Island in the Galapagos in July, 2003. They were taken with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens. Mainly we found these guys sleeping, so these shots are not very lively! The pup sleeping on the rock was a cute sight as was the youngster suckling just below. The shot just to the left shows the steep forhead of an adult male. |

The next 8 shots were taken in the Galapagos Islands in July, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 100-400mm
F/4.5-5.6 L IS lens. The top image shows some animals resting on a white sand beach while the next images show a sea
lion yawning as it emerges from the sea.
