The Gray-breasted
Seedsnipe (Thinocorus orbignyianus) occurs
in the Andes of Peru and into Argentina and Chile. The photos
presented here are of a one-day old chick (from a clutch of four)
near El Yeso Reservoir, Chile. The adult was nearby. The photos
were taken on 13 January 1999 with a Canon EOS 1N & EF 300mm
F4L IS lens with fill flash mounted on a gunstock. The film was
Fuji Sensia 100. The four chicks were hiding under rocks and
brush at the edge of a dirt road. I suspect there are very few
photos of this species at this age.
