 Gold Harbor, South Georgia

Gold Harbor, South Georgia, is one of my favorite places. It is home to an estimated 10,000 King Penguins as well as a great assortment of other wildlife including Antarctic Fur Seals, Southern Elephant Seals, Light-mantled Albatross, Gentoo Penguins, Brown Skuas, and others. An early morning spent here when the sunrise (about 4:00 A.M. during January or February) first illuminates the harbor is never to be forgotten. The above photo was taken in February, 2001 with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 20-35 mm wide angle lens on Fuji Velvia.
