The Gray Fox (Urocyoncinereoargenteus) occurs across most of the United States and ranges south through Mexico. Foxes are considered to be of the wild dog family and are extremely variable in their habitat preferences. Gray Foxes will eat a wide variety of food from grasses and berries to insects and rodents. This particular individual was patrolling an area of widely separated homes in the Davis Mountains of West Texas in June, 2001. The shots were taken with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 500mm F4 L IS lens on Fuji Velvia film.
The Gray Fox in the next 3 shots was hunting along the edge of the yard at a farmhouse at night near Elgin, Bastrop Co., Texas, in September, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS and Canon 580 flash.
