The Gulf Fritillary (Atlides halesus) is a common southern butterfly which occurs from the United States southward to South America. The top 4 images here were taken in May, 2003, in Real Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 180mm F/3.5 Macro lens. The 5th image was taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.

The Gulf Fritillary on the left was in Denton Co., Texas, in August, 2007, and was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
