The Hooded Warbler (Wilsonia citrina) is a breeding species across much of the eastern United States. It winters in the tropics. The species is an early spring migrant and may be present on breeding territories in the southern portion of its breeding range as early as mid to late March. Such was the case with the male in the top 5 images on the left. The male was singing on territory in the Davy Crockett National Forest in Houston Co., Texas, in March, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 l IS lens and 2X extender. It was a rather dark and gray morning so I had to use a high ISO and a slow shutter speed, but these were the best shots I could get under the conditions. Some may be slightly soft due to slower than normal shutter speed.
