The Jaunty Dropwing (Trithemis stictica) is widespread over much of Africa; it also occurs on Madagascar. All photos on this page were taken in South Africa in January, 2006. The top image of a male shown here was photographed along the Olifantspruit River near Nysltroom, Limpopo Province. The next male shot was taken in the Blyde River Canyon, Mpumalanga Province, while the bottom two shots of young insects were near Lydenburg, Mpumalanga Province. All images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender with a 580 flash.
