The Julia Skimmer (Orthetrum julia) is common and widespread over much of Africa. All photos on this page were taken in South Africa in January, 2006. The top three images of males shown here were photographed along the Olifantspruit River near Nysltroom, Limpopo Province. The pair in copula was taken in the Blyde River Canyon, Mpumalanga Province. All images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender with a 580 flash.
