The Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys gryneus) is a widespread butterfly of much of the eastern United States. In Texas, it is usually found near red cedar or ashe juniper. The individual in the top 4 images on the left was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in March, 2008. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.

The Juniper Hairstreaks in central Texas, such as the one in the top 4 images shown here, is referred to as "Olive" Juniper Hairstreak (C. g. gryneus).
