| The Key West Quail-Dove (Geotrygon chrysia) has occurred very rarely in southern Florida, but its primary range includes the West Indies. It occurs east as far as Puerto Rico, where this bird was photographed in July, 1998. A Canon T-90 & FD 400mm F4.5 lens from a hand-held BushHawk shoulder mount on Fuji Sensia 100 film was used. This bird was calling from a tree on the edge of a campground in the Susua State Forest in the southwestern part of the island. The use of flash would had added a great deal to the photo, such as faster shutter speed, but after 20+ years of seeing this bird in U.S. field guides as an extreme rarity, I just had to show one photo of it, even if it is a poor one. |
