The Lake Darner (Aeshna eremita) is a large dragonfly that occurs across the northern U.S. and much of Canada. It is not often found perched, so many shots of this species, including this one, are posed. The shot of this male was taken near King Kirkland, Timiskaming Co., Ontario, Canada, in July, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash.
