This Little Gull (Larus minutus) was discovered by Martin Reid at Lake Benbrook, Tarrant Co., Texas on 14 November 1999. These photos were taken on 17 November 1999. This is the first record of a juvenile plumaged Little Gull in Texas (as opposed to a 1st winter plumaged bird). This plumage is rare anywhere in the southern half of the U.S. This will represent the 30th accepted record of this species in Texas. The Little Gull nests at various locations near the shore of Hudson Bay in Canada. It winters on Atlantic seaboard of the northeast United States, but wandering individuals may turn up just about anyplace in the U.S. The bird here was a surprising find in July, 1996, at Port Mahon, Little Creek, Kent Co., Delaware. These two shots were taken with a Canon T-90 and FD 400mm F/5.6 lens on Ektachrome 200 film.
