The Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudata) is a common and well-known bird of southern Africa. This is a species which is noticed even by many people who do not have a particular interest in birds. The bird shown here, a moulting individual, was photographed near Nylsvley, Limpopo Province, South Africa in January, 2006. These digital shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
