The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) is a widespread species of southern Europe, east Africa, much of Asia, Austraila, and New Zealand. It is superficially similar to the Snowy Egret of the Americas, but note the head plumes of the Little Egret. The bird shown here was at the Polokwane Bird Reserve near Pietersburg, Limpopo Province, South Africa in January, 2006. These digital shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
