The Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus) is a nesting bird of the grassland prairies of much of the central and north central United States and southern Canada. The species winters on all of our coastlines ans well as the coasts of Mexico and southward. The top 9 shots on this page show Long-billed Curlews in their breeding habitat at Benton Lake N.W.R., Cascade Co., Montana, in June, 2007. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens, sometimes with a 1.4X extender.
