The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is a widespread duck across all of North America. In general it breeds across much of the northern and central United States and most of Canada, and winters along both coasts and much of the southern U.S. and Mexico. The two shots of male Mallards on the left were taken at Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in April, 2003 before the birds headed north to breed. The shots were taken with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. See below for more shots. |

The six shots immediately below, four females, a male in flight, and a male flapping, were all taken in November, 2005, at Bosque del Apache N.W.R., Socorro Co., New Mexico with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
