The Marbled Godwit (Limosa fedoa) nests in south central Canada and the north central United States. It is a species of the high plains grasslands of those regions during the summer months. In winter it may be found along both coasts. The top four shots here were all taken in June, 1991, of breeding birds at Bowdoin N.W.R., Phillips Co., Montana, with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4 X extender on Fuji Velvia. The Marbled Godwit below was wintering on the Texas Gulf coast at Galveston in February, 2007. This is a digital
image taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.

The next 4 images on the left were taken at Benton Lake N.W.R., Cascade Co., Montana, in June, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/5 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. The bird on the left is looking up at another godwit overhead. Godwits constantly circle any passing vehicle offering some interesting chances to get some flight shots of this species.
