The Medium Ground-Finch (Geospiza fortis) is one of the "Darwin Finches" endemic to the Galapagos Islands. The top 2 shots on this page were digital captures taken in July, 2003. The top shot on Santa Maria and the next shot on Santa Cruz Island with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender. Telling Small, Medium, and Large Ground Finches apart has to do with the bill structure. Scroll down for more images.
The next 6 images below were taken in July, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS
lens. The top 4 shots show a male while the bottom 2 shots are of females.
