The Mexican Forktail (Ischnura demorsa) is found in the American southwest and much of Mexico. It has occurred as far north as Colorado and Kansas but its main area is west Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The top 2 shots here were taken in September, 2004, in Presidio Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 180 mm F/3.5 macro lens with a 2X extender and 550 EX flash. Compare this species to the other similar Ischnuras. Note the pattern on the tip of the abdomen is different from most other species that it might be confused with. This is a tiny damselfly and can easily be overlooked.

The next two shots of a male Mexican Forktail were taken at Pena Blanca Lake, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, in May, 2008, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
