The Mississippi Kite (Ictinia mississippiensis) nests across much of the south east and south central United States. In the fall, the species often migrates in flocks as they head south, but often single individuals may be encountered. The three shots of juvenile Mississippi Kite shown here show two individuals in the town of Balmorhea, Reeves Co., Texas, in September, 2006. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The two shots of juvenile Mississippi Kites below were taken near a nest in Ochiltree Co., Texas, in August, 2004, with the same gear as was used above.
