The Mountain Malachite (Chlorolestes fasciatus) is endemic to South Africa. The species frequents streams and rivers and can be locally common. There are forms with banded wings and forms with unbanded wings. The shots here, all of unbanded individuals, were taken in the Blyde River Canyon, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa in January, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender with a 580 flash.
