The Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) is also referred to as (Battus philoenor). This species occurs across most of the United States, south through Mexico. Within the U.S., it is usually more common in the west. The top 3 images on the left showing the caterpillar of a Mourning Cloak were taken in Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, in April, 2003, with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 180mm F/3.5 Macro.
