The Navy Dropwing (Trithemis furva) occurs in portions of east, west, and central Africa and ranges southward through southern Africa as well. It can be a very common species at many locations. In the field it is virtually identical to Dorsal Dropwing (T. dorsalis) and in-hand identification is necessary. The shots here of males were taken on the Olifantspruit River near Nylstroom, Limpopo Province, South Africa in January, 2006 with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender with a 580 flash.
