The Neon Skimmer (Libellula croceipennis) is a fairly common southwestern dragonfly, and a beautiful, flashy red creature to watch as it forages over a small pond. The images shown here, digital captures, were shot in May, 2003 in Austin, Travis Co., Texas. The camera was a Canon EOS 10D with an EF 300 F4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.



 

The male on the left was near Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2003. It was shot with the same gear as above.

The immature male on the left was near Bee Cave, Travis Co., Texas, in June. 2005. It was shot with a Cannon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash.

 

 

The immature Neon Skimmer on the left was at Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in August, 2007, and was shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and the same lens and flash as above.


The male on the left was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in November, 2007 and was shot with the same gear as the image above.

The female Neon Skimmer in the next 2 shots was in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in July, 2008. These shots were taken with a canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 580 flash.
