The Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) occurs in rivers and lakes over much of Africa, where it is considered an endangered species. The two shots here were taken at Shakawe on the Okavango River in Botswana in October, 1998, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. The animal in the top shot was pretty large, perhaps 9 or 10 feet long I would guess. It was resting along the river bank. The other shot shows a smaller individual which was photographed from a small bluff over the edge of the river.
