Familiar Bluet
Enallagma civile
The Familiar Bluet (Enallagma civile) is a common and widespread damselfly across much of the U.S. It inhabits a wide variety of habitats including ponds, rivers, swamps and even salt marshes. The photo of the male here was a digital capture in July 2003 in Austin, Travis Co., Texas with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 180 mm F3.5 Macro lens with a 1.4 X extender and ring flash. The female in the next image was shot with the same equipment at the same location in May, 2003.
The three shots of Familiar Bluets were taken in Hidalgo Co., Texas during May and June, 2006, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. The first image shows a pair in copula, the next a male in flight, and at the bottom is a male perched on a small piece of floating vegetation.
